We’re one of the UK’s longest-established cohousing communities
Cohousing is a way of living where people have their own private homes and independent lives, while sharing land and resources with neighbours they know and trust.
Around 70 people live here in 22 households, from babies to people in their eighties. Children grow up with room to roam, surrounded by other kids and families, and adults at every stage of life find a real support network on their doorstep. It’s the kind of close-knit village life many of us want, but which often feels hard to find.
23 acres, shared and managed together
Our land includes beautiful gardens, species-rich meadows, woodland, an orchard, allotments, ponds, workshops and a herb garden. Every month we spend a day working to maintain the site and buildings, and often welcome volunteers to join us and get a taste of community life first-hand.
At the centre of the site is Shawfield, our main community building, which doubles as an event space and retreat venue. We have a large hall, professional kitchen, dining room, meeting rooms, offices, artists’ studios and guest rooms, all available for hire.
